Alumapalooza Looks to be the Airstream Event of the Year
This year’s Alumapalooza will be taking place between Tuesday, May 28 and Saturday, June 2, at the Airstream factory in Jackson Center, Ohio. The event is a chance for owners and fans of the fabled brand to get together and enjoy everything that Airstream has to offer. In addition to daily factory tours, Alumapalooza features entertainment, gifts and door prizes. It’s a great way for owners of the iconic trailers to get together and socialize, and for people interested in the brand to find out just how friendly the Airstream community is.
The fun starts on Tuesday with a tour of the Airstream assembly line, which is followed by a 3-4 mile ride around town. This gives visitors the opportunity to get to know Jackson Center and all that it has to offer. There will also be a doggie meet and greet where canine guests can get to know each other, and then have a good run around. Dogs are welcome at Alumapalooza, but they should be kept on a leash in the camping area. Rounding out Tuesday is an ice cream social featuring door prizes.
Highlights of Wednesday’s activities include a display of the newest Airstream models and a performance by Laura Frederick, the “Swedish Nightingale”. Thursday features a cookout and an open mike jam session in the main tent. On Friday drivers can take a 20 minute test drive of the Can-Am RV towing combination, and then test their skills in a trailer backing contest. Visitors who still have energy on Saturday can take a yoga class or participate in a fun run.
Throughout the festivities there will be numerous talks and presentations covering everything from vintage Airstream customization to exotic kite flying. While taking everything in, keep an eye out for green flags in the camping area. These are invitations from fellow Airstreamers letting you know that you can drop in and have a chat. If you hit it off you can get together for dinner in the main tent, or you can make your own using the shared grills.
Camping is available on the field right next to the Airstream manufacturing facility, and all types of RVs are welcome. The site offers 3-amp AC power as well as access to fresh water and a dump station. Portable toilets are also provided at the site. Those wanting to run their air conditioners can choose to use one of the “Generator sections”. There will be two of these sections, one of which will have quiet hours enforced. In the quiet section generators will only be permitted to run between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily.
If you own an Airstream trailer, or are just a fan of these aluminum classics, Alumapalooza is an event that you should not miss.
